My second article for Inspired Eye magazine is published! It is a regular series titled Curious Frame. If you’re looking for some inspiration, great photography and interviews with photographers, look no further! Thanks to Don Springer and his passion and dedication to the art of photography!
I went to see the ever-talented, crazy creative, fantastic being extraordinaire Davey Mitchell tonight at his happening in the East Village as part of the Howl! Festival. If you haven’t seen Art by Davey, you are really missing out. I had the pleasure a few years back of doing a photo shoot with him. And you can buy a magazine with incredible photos of his costume design and characters! This is just a party shot. I will post a photo or two of Davey as well. First, I just had to post this shot with silence=death. They’re back! https://www.shootnewyorkcity.com/blog/2017/4/24/simply-fabulous
You it was really cold out today. Had a really good tour and also took some photos that I’m Happy with. I’d call that a good day even if I did freeze. As you may know I’ve been doing some double exposures again. I have a new series of abstracts that have a painterly quality. Anyway, tomorrow is the Harlem workshop. You can see a list of the upcoming workshops on my site. – Alphabet City, 11 March 2017.
If you’re not having a good time when you’re out shooting, what are you doing??? I mean seriously. Going out and taking/making photos is a gas! I’m a big fan of experimenting and making so-called mistakes. The element of chance is always a factor. Did you miss something one day only to see it the next? Were you not in top visual mode? There are always challenges along the way. A battery dies or a memory card fills up right in the middle of your stream? It gets easier to move beyond those things on good days. Some of my best mistakes turned into styles. Experiments as well, There is so much possibility and any given moment I only hope to catch as much as possible. It’s a great exercise in rising above the mundane and seeing even familiar surroundings in a new light. And maybe there are days when you just nail something beyond your expectations. When you’re passionate about it, you don’t give in or give up no matter if the conditions aren’t ideal. Maybe ideal situations don’t produce the best photos. Just a few thoughts on my process and thinking about photography. This is a double exposure photo taken 9 March 2017, Dumbo, Brooklyn. In Pursuit of Magic, I have a creative photography workshop if you’re in interested in doing something different with photography.
Here’s another photo that I took during the Bushwick Street Art & Creative Photography Workshop on 26 February. It was fabulous fun exploring the amazing street art and experimenting with different camera techniques to produce an abstract style. We did also capture a few street photography shots. That said, this is not the best neighborhood for street unless you are very patient! The next Bushwick Workshop is on 26 March and you can register on my site. It is limited to a maximum of 6 people and you can see some examples of what attendees captured in the Facebook group for Shoot New York City.
Here’s another photo from the Bushwick Street Art & Creative Photography Workshop! This photo was taken using intentional camera movement. I haven’t yet planned another Creative Photography Workshop. In the meantime I do have a number of Street Photography Workshops scheduled. By the way, you can see some photos from other attendees in the Shoot New York City Facebook Group.
We had a fabulous day today in Bushwick, Brooklyn for the Street Art and Creative Photography Workshop! I took a ton of photos! Creative photography is just as much about having fun as it is about creating great photos! It’s about experimenting and doing things with your camera which you might not of thought about doing. And also about seeing things in a different way. I have 3 upcoming Street Photography Workshops. I will perhaps have another Creative Photography Workshop in March or April.
